Library Assistant II
Under general supervision, to perform a wide variety of tasks connected with a school media center, to execute complex and responsible clerical work of more than average difficulty in a media center and to do related work as required, consistent with job description.
Directly responsible to designated administrators.
Assists students and faculty at circulation desk
Charges library materials out to patrons
Issues audio visual materials to faculty and students
Does follow-up on overdue material to secure its return
Collects book fines
Assists teachers and students in locating reference materials
Assists in supervision of students during library hours
Assists in training and supervision of library aides
Uses a variety of special reference materials available in school media center
Files library cards and other materials; assists students with Readers Guide to Periodical Literature
Assists in compiling and typing special bibliographies, book lists, and varied special reference requests
Types letters and varied other documents connected with the receipt and processing of new materials
Maintains records of inventory, book counts, monthly reports, audio-visual equipment, and supplies
Uses basic cataloguing procedures and rules for processing and filing
Finds basic information for processing of catalogued materials
Conducts annual inventory of library books and audio-visual materials
Operates job related equipment
Files, locates, and reproduces magazine, microfiche, and computer stored materials for student and faculty use
Uses computer billing, word processing, and communication programs
Processes print and non-print material
Uses microcomputer programs in word processing, data base, and spread sheet
Makes minor repairs to damaged books
Types and duplicates instructional worksheets
Assist students and faculty in the selection of library materials
Be familiar with the Dewey Decimal System.
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Operation of a computer and assigned software.
Terminology, processes and operations of assigned office or program.
Record-keeping and filing techniques.
Telephone techniques and etiquette.
Basic research methods and report preparation techniques.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.
Oral and written communication skills.
Basic budgeting practices regarding monitoring and control.
Basic math.
Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.

Answer telephones and greet the public courteously. Maintain records, logs and files.
Learn principles of training and providing work direction and guidance to others.
Compile, assemble, verify and prepare data for records and reports.
Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
Compose correspondence and written materials independently.
Work independently with little direction.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Plan and organize work.
Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software.
Be able to multitask.

Move hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.

Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
See to read a variety of materials.
Bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to file materials.
Type at a rate of thirty-five (35) words per minute
Pass qualifying tests.
Two (2) years of library clerical work experience preferred.
