Position Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Career Services Director at the Glenmont Job Corps to manage the counseling department, career preparation department, WBL and CTS and supervises OA/CTS Manager. Ensures crisis management counseling services are available to all trainees. Oversees MYPACE the Evaluation of Student Performance system. Employee ensures that individual and group counseling services are provided to all students. Ensures students learn job readiness and learn and practice skill through WBL. This position has a significant emphasis on student retention, meeting PRH and company policies. This is a Supervisory role with hire and fire roles. In addition:

  • Ensures that assigned center maintains 100% OBS with eligible and committed applicants.
  • This is a supervisory management position. This position may be required to serve on a rotating basis as the senior weekend duty officer, which entail being on call by phone, reporting to the Center in an emergency, and briefing management on events over the weekend.
  • Assists students in adjusting to Center life to enhance student retention by providing supervision, behavior modification, counseling, and by acting as a positive role model and mentor. 
  • Serves as a member of the Center's Sexual Assault Response Team (TEAM). 
  • Supervises assigned staff, reviews and approves requests for time off, and may be required to arrange substitute staff coverage. Reviews for accuracy and approves assigned staff timesheets.
  • Conducts interviews of perspective new employees and makes recommendations for, or against hire, based on applicant qualifications and experience, and in compliance with state and Federal laws, and company policy.
  • Conducts formal performance evaluations for staff under supervision in a timely manner and provides regular and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Responsible for the performance management of all employees under supervision including issuing Behavior Modification Agreements in conjunction with Human Resources and following the chain of command in accordance with CMG's code of staff conduct.
  • Supervises and assesses Outreach and Admissions staff. Ensures that all staff meet monthly goals.
  • Responsible for the overall placement of students within their career path ensure they acquire a Job, Advanced training, college or the military. 
  • Creates and maintains an Outreach calendar including all events and activities attended to recruit new students into the program.
  • Schedules and oversees a weekly tour of the center and ensures that all interested individuals receive tours and information as needed or requested.
  • May be assigned to supervise an activity, a special event (either on or off center), or in other program areas as assigned on a temporary, periodic, or regular basis.
  • Plans and manages the counseling program and supervises counselors.
  • Provides on-going management and guidance to counselors in caseload management, case documentation and counseling techniques.
  • Participates in weekly case meetings with counselors and Mental Health Consultant.
  • Establishes performance standards to evaluate counselors' effectiveness and prepares Employee Development Plans to improve professional development.
  • Plans and manages the counseling program and supervises counselors. 
    • Acts as a resource leader and trainer for other staff in areas relating to counseling. Ensuring counseling case documentation is up-to-date and available for Department of Labor and corporate audits.
  • Ensures that the CPP program is in accordance with Job Corps policy and supervises CPP staff.
  • Works with staff, employers, organized labor and the community to establish positive work-based learning sites for students to learn and practice skills they cannot easily learn in a classroom setting.
  • Plans and coordinates activities to bring together the appropriate persons, including employers, educators, trainees and staff to ensure the success of the School-to-Career/Work–based Learning program.
  • Generates work site opportunities that best match the training capabilities and needs of trainees with employers' requirements. Develops and maintains copies WBL MOUs with employers prior to students participating in training at each site. This must include mutual expectations and requirements, and ensure employer feedback on skills obtained or strengthened, and feedback on remediation needed. 

Qualifications:

Minimum: Previous   Job Corps experienc e.  Bachelor's degree (including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction), two years' experience in counseling or related field, plus two years' experience working with youth and young adults

Preferred:  Experience working with disadvantaged youth is highly desirable. Master's Degree. Two years' experience in counseling or related field, plus two years' experience working with youth and young adults. Previous Job Corps experience or experience working with disadvantaged youth

Knowledge Required:  Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent organizational skills. Knowledge of local schools, workforce development programs, community resources, and other community-based programs. Ability to read, interpret and digest labor trend studies. Strong working knowledge of computer systems. Must possess a valid state driver's license. Must maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certificate.
